Bearing Witness to Violence Against Women

The Clothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to the violence against women and children through the creation of T-shirts. Each shirt is decorated by the survivor, or by someone who cares about her. It began in hyannis, Massachusetts in 1990. The purpose of the project it to:
- Bear witness to the survivors and their experiences
- Help with the healing process for survivors and those who have lost a loved one to violence
- Educate, document, and raise awareness of the problem of violence against women,
- Provide a nationwide network of support, encouragement and information for other communities starting their own Clothesline projects.
