Crime Rate Statistics in Maine

Rapes reported to law enforcement Increased 21.4% in 2002. Where nearly all other violent crimes decreased(Maine Department of Public Safety, Maine crime statistics, 2003)
Rapes reported to law enforcement Increased by 70.7% between 1998 and 2002 in Maine(Maine Department of Public Safety, Maine crime statistics, 2003)

According to the 2003 Maine Automated Child Welfare Information System, there were 2,612 families in 2003 where child abuse and neglect was substantiated. Of those, 574 were instances of sexual abuse. A break down of the age and gender of sexual abuse is as follows:
